You think I was kidding when I said I didn't take many pictures at con? I took four.

All four behind the cut! )

ConFusion: Midway Point

I'm in our hotel room, resting my abused toe. Walking 10,000 steps yesterday wasn't too smart, but it is con, so that's hard to avoid.

I've been having a great time. Obviously, Angie is here, and I've spent a lot of time with Rik and Rennie and Kate and Ben and smaller bits of time, ranging from 5 seconds to a few minutes, with Jeff and Sarah and Dean and M`jit and Yanni and Amanda and Anne and Janann and probably a lot of people I'm forgetting.

(I'm very tired. Our bed is much, much softer than the one we have at home, and neither A nor I slept very well last night. Good for other purposes, just not sleeping.)

I've gone to exactly one panel this far - Fantastic Sports. It was very good, especially given the fact that they had about six hours worth of discussion to do in one hour. The two Author Guests of Honor - Scott Westerfeld and Justine Larbalestier - were two of the six panelists, and they both had very interesting points of view. Justine's Australian, so she was using cricket examples, but did it in a way that didn't actually confuse all the Americans on the panel and in the crowd.

(And her cricket bat and cricket ball cuff links were REALLY cool!)

Scott and Justine also happen to be huge New York Liberty fans, so Angie and I chatted with them for quite a while after the panel about the Liberty, the Shock, Ruth Riley and Bill Laimbeer. Part of that was Justine explaining that, while they are both asses, Bill does it on purpose, while Ricky Ponting is just "thick".

(By the way, the panel really was fabulous - I'm not just saying that because Scott Westerfeld has a Google Alert set up for his name and saw the post I made before about wanting to be on the panel. I just want to clarify that.)

(Hi, Scott!)

Angie's in the pool with the KidFusion group until 2, and then she's off to Feminist Fiction. I was going to go to the mask panel at 2, but Justine and Scott are doing a panel called "SF Is Not Dead", and it includes Captain Wedgebeard, so I may have to go there, and take lots of flash pictures.

Until then, I'll be resting my toe. And maybe setting up an eBay auction for my con program. The autographed "I Met John Scalvi" ribbons are already collector's items, but *I* have a program with an authentic Justine Larbalestier scribble. It even looks vaguely like a galaxy, or maybe an atom.

(Speaking of Scalzi, I've always felt vaguely bad for decapitating him in a short story, but I feel better now. Last night, he came over to Rikhei and I and said "Look, it's Peter Jackson!" :P)
