Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.)
Angie and I finished watching the Firefly series tonight - we've still got the movie left. I enjoyed it a lot - certainly more than the last SF series that was Greatly Adored by my online friends.
There were a few times that someone would say or do something, and my first reaction would be "That's not how he/she reacted the other time!"
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that one of the good things about the show is that the characters weren't so two-dimensional that contradictions automatically felt wrong. If Mal or Kaylee or Wash seemed one way in one episode and another way in another episode, you were able to say "Well, yes, people are like that sometimes." I've seen a lot of shows where you never see any depth to the characters, so it's jarring when they hit more than one note.
(OK, maybe not Jayne. But eight out of nine isn't bad.)
I've spent the last five minutes trying to decide which character was my favorite. I still don't know. There were certain combinations that played well together. I don't mean the romantic pairs, but duos who meshed well - Mal and Zoe, Shepherd and River, Inara and Kaylee. On the other hand, Mal and Kaylee always seemed awkward to me.
As the series ran on, though, I realized that it was very clear which character I most identified with ... Simon. That was especially true in the last couple episodes. Well, except for the part about getting shot. I've never been shot.
But in the end, after watching all the episodes, I only really have one pressing question.
How in the hell did Lady Heather end up in the ass-end of the galaxy?!?
